President Trump has signed inhumane executive orders calling for aggressive action to find and deport undocumented immigrants, to punish cities that dare to provide safety and security for vulnerable immigrants, and to prevent entry to the United States by people from certain countries, making it more difficult for LGBT people fleeing for their lives to enter the United States. He has also ordered the building of a pointless, costly border wall with Mexico.
New, for profit, detention facilities will be built and local police forces will become deportation forces.
These un-American actions will harm thousands of LGBT immigrants in Los Angeles and throughout the nation who could be forced to return to countries where many experienced violence, abuse, torture, and persecution because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status.
As violence against LGBT people escalates in parts of the world, particularly the Middle East, Russia and South America, these dangerous executive orders deny entry to those who would come here for safety and asylum. In nearly 80 countries it is unsafe to be LGBT, with consequences up to and including the death penalty.
The President's xenophobic actions will cause deadly harm to some of the most vulnerable in the LGBT community around the world and cost American taxpayers many millions of dollars.
Please take the 100 Days and Me pledge to stay informed, be vigilant, and help fight federal policies and legislation that threaten the safety, health and well-being of LGBT people.
